Projects

One of the activities of the Bonnell Building Project is to provide space, infrastructure and support for community members with startup projects and organizations (nonprofit and for-profit) that fit into one or more of the areas listed in our mission (social entrepreneurship, science and technology, business, the arts).

This activity includes:
  • Determining the most efficient utilization of available space for startup projects that are proposed to us
  • Providing infrastructure support, e.g., Internet access, computers, access to meeting rooms
  • Identifying and recruiting volunteers within the community to share business and organizational knowledge, expertise and experience to one or more startup projects/organizations.
  • Helping secure resources, such as furniture and equipment, required by each startup
  • Providing support, as necessary, for projects and organizations transitioning to a more permanent space

Current projects with dedicated space include:

The Beauty Shop

Recording Studio

Main Street Artists Collective

Many Shades of Sisterhood

Art House Vintage

Current projects without dedicated space include

Outside of the building, we also assist a number of community projects, including:

A sustainable home building project: Building Beyond Green

And we are researching the history of the Bonnell Building. We have contacted Dr. Bonnell's daughter, who currently lives in a nursing home in Virginia; we have included her letter back to us as an attachment (see below).

If you have a specific project you want to propose, please contact Space Jam, the group taking the lead on making space utilization decisions, by emailing bonnellproject@gmail.com.
