SESP Grant Proposal - Aug 20th, 2010

The BBP/Building Beyond Green project recently submitted a grant proposal in response to a Iowa State Energy Sector Partnership RFP. The overview statement is below and the full application PDF is attached.

Building Beyond Green (BBG) is a sustainable construction training program offered by the
Bonnell Building Project in Fairfield Iowa. BBG will transform Southeast Iowa. Housing is a
basic human need and new housing construction is a major economic driver for both the workers
and communities where it occurs. The Fairfield area has strong growth in new construction and a
need for workers trained in sustainable construction techniques. Because this is an emerging
field, applying historically successful workforce training and support does not ensure success, for
instance there is a lack of not only workers but entrepreneurs/contractors in the sustainable
housing industry. The Bonnell Building Project and BBG will address these issues in an
individualized process, bring significant partner and stakeholder resources to bear, to ensure
success of each participant. The resulting outcomes include short term economic benefits to the
participant and the community, and long term social, economic, civic and environmental benefits
to the whole region.
